Misogynistic Goodyear Tire Commercial

Daily Misogyny: Goodyear's Polyglas Will Save Your Wife
By Matt Van Hoven on Dec 29, 2009 01:24 PM
Just in time for the snowy weather comes this "classic" Goodyear spot pimping the brand's polyglas tires, which at the time were wider than most, making them the choice for men with wives. Er, basically women are not capable of driving on regular tires. Try telling Danica Patrick that — and you're likely to get a size 7 up your ass.

Levi's Commercial " Post-Mortem " Halloween Levis ad

I clapped after viewing this ad. The art direction and the music is perfect an it pretty damn good. Now this dark and creepy spot is not a real ad for Levi's, but it's darn good. This ad was created as promo material for AboveGrey Pictures and honestly, I enjoyed watching.

Take your clothes off

This is stupid so yeah im going to do this just to see her nude. hell no. It's good to know our supermodels are willing to show us their benevolent side and uh, other sides as well to encourage climate action. The new Budweiser Lyrics ad, featuring music from The Hours

nice is not......

All Together Now Stop Frame Animation - Budweiser Spoof

Months back, agency wrote about an advertising student who was inspired by Budweiser's "All Together Now" spot and decided to take her own low-budget stab at it. Now, one of her friends from London has made yet another homage to the ad, and it's quite an impressive bit of stop-motion goodness. The video was created as a side project by Isaac Bell, a photographer, editor and designer for DDB London. It's definitely one to watch several times, though you'll still be hard-pressed to catch all the clever bits of background animation. I'm sure his agency overlords have given him some hearty encouragement, probably along the lines of: "Nice job. Now quit dicking around with the stapler and get back to work." Davod from agencyspy

Road Safety: Bleeding Billboard

I agree with some of the people that think its a good message... but also horrible message because that's creepy enough to distract drivers.

The PUMA Index

Sexy stuff...Puma has created a great application to help monitor your stock portfolio. They have created a stock ticker that has models removing their clothes as the market dips, and putting it back on as it raises. Each model is decked out in Puma from head to toe. Obviously they are banking on people wanting to see their models in their nickers, but its a neat approach at creating something thats functional and fun. There are different models for the different markets around the globe with male and female varieties for each. Overall they have taken something that is normally boring, bland and, riddled with boring financial data, and have turned it into models taking off their clothes (Puma clothes), Brilliant. Love the fact that it correlates with real data, making it a viable stock ticker for those that actually like nudity with their finances in the morning.

The Official Level 26 Trailer

CSI creator Anthony Zuiker is trying to get deeper under your skin. The father of the forensics franchise is attempting to bring new life and dimension to the publishing world with the "digi-novel" Level 26, a multiplatform story that begins with a book and continues onto the web.

"I wanted to do CSI on cocaine," Zuiker says in the story's behind the scenes video. The tale follows FBI agent Steve Dark and his pursuit of Sqweegel, a killer who could have Hannibal Lechter for lunch. As the story goes, law officials classify murderers on 25 levels, but this fiend surpasses them all, having burned, strangled, shot, tortured, raped, maimed more than 35 people in 23 years, and in six different countries. And he happens to be a creepy contortionist too.

Readers take in the book (the first of a trilogy) 20 pages at a time, after which they're prompted to go to level26.com and input pass codes to view what Zuiker calls "cyber bridges," film clips that continue and enhance the narrative. The site also serves as a platform for readers to share in the experience, create profiles, contribute their own content—basically, a "haven for people who want to buy into the mythology of Level 26," says Zuiker.

Zuiker co-wrote the book with comic book and crime writer Duane Swierczynski and enlisted EQAL, the team behind "lonelygirl15," to create the Level 26 site. Marc Ecko created illustrations for the novel, which is published under the Penguin imprint Dutton.

Eyewriter: An Artistic Tool For Individuals With AL

Eyewriter: An Artistic Tool For Individuals With ALS

Tony Quan (aka TEMPTONE) is an LA based graffiti writer, publisher and activist who was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a neurodegenerative disorder) in 2003. Despite the fact that the disease has left him nearly paralyzed, his passion to create and write graffiti never left him.

The collaborative efforts of the Graffiti Research Lab, Free Art+ Technology,Open Frameworks, and The Ebeling Group- organizations specializing in various aspects of open source computing, creativity and production- created the EyeWriter - a low cost software/eye-tracking tool that allows those paralyzed from ALS to write using only their eyes.

Eyewriter: An Artistic Tool For Individuals With ALS

The first prototype of the EyeWriter was made using a combination of items from Venice Beach, CA electronics and hardware stores and open source set of C++ libraries for creative coding from openFrameworks.

This resulted in a successful demonstration on April 12, as TEMPT was able to draw his tag for the first time in over 5 years. It was sent in real time and projected on a wall that he was able to see from a window by his bed in the hospital.

The second phase of the project is due to be completed this month, and will involve an online publication of DIY instructions, open source software and video documentation of the creation of the second version.

Hyperizers - Don't Criticize (Hyperize)

Back in the '90s, it seemed like pro athletes were lining up for the chance to put out terrible rap albums. Now, Nike and Wieden + Kennedy revisit those days with four NBA stars who are just as bad on the mike—but at least seem to realize it. "Don't Criticize (Hyperize)" is a bizarre and endearingly subtle parody of '90s hip-hop featuring Rashard "Ice-O" Lewis, Andre "Chief Blocka" Iguodala, Kevin "Velvet Hoop" Durant and the always awesome Mo Williams, who claims one of the best rap pseudonyms ever with "Fog Raw." At first blush, the song is pretty painful, but it's worth a few watches just to catch the endless references to decade-old fads. And for Lewis's top-notch lyric, "If you like staying on the ground, maybe you should wrestle.

Johnnie Walker | "Walk"

Best ad of the year so far? It just might be this brilliant five-minute-plus spot by BBH London, in which Robert Carlyle, in a single continuous take, narrates the progression of Johnnie Walker whiskey from the backroom experimentation of a humble shopkeeper to the multinational powerhouse it is today. The combination of bagpiper abuse, well-timed visual cues, pitch-perfect writing and music, and Carlyle's charisma keeps the mini-movie chugging right along. (When was the last time you sat through an ad this long, and one that really just puts in motion the boring brand-history page from the Web site?) It's also nice to see the renowned gloomy Scottish countryside put to good use. UPDATE: Shots has an interesting interview with the director, Jamie Rafn of HLA in London.

General Motors Commercial Spoof: infoMania

My dad told me if you start a business and it fails you let it go, fire everyone and start over. Do not repeat the same mistakes.

General Motors has reached a tentative agreement to sell Saab to the Swedish sports car manufacturer Koenigsegg. They are trying to rebuild, wait! did you see their New Tv spot, how the hell are they rebuilding by spending so much on an Ad, they will never learn.

This is what David Griner had to say:
Apparently, a slick video montage doesn't quite convince everyone that General Motors can claw its way out of the abyss and return to its former glory. Current TV's "InfoMania" show created this spoof (which has a bit of salty language up front) to highlight just how much random window dressing GM puts on an ad that's supposed to be frank and to the point. I'd love to see what clips got cut in editing. I think it could have ended a lot stronger with Mount Rushmore, sad clown, iron girder, Woody Guthrie, gold miner, tombstone, zombie hand.

Jeff Howe - Crowdsourcing

With Crowdsourcing I can see agencies benefiting a great deal. I mean they can know get ideas from everyone and pay them less. This is bad for creative’s with out any special talents in Art or production. Well I guess any thing new is bad for them. Thank Goodness Miami Ad school is training it creative to find their USP and benefit and be the best at it.

HDR photography

I learned about this today on my first shoot has and AD for the New Times.com.

In image processing, computer graphics, and photography, high dynamic range imaging (HDRI or just HDR) is a set of techniques that allows a greater dynamic range of luminances between light and dark areas of a scene than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDRI is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows.

Project Natal Motion Sensing Controller for XBOX 360

Microsoft announces Natal, the next controller for the Xbox 360

Microsoft announces a slew of improvements to the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, topped off with what could be the biggest controller announcement ever made: no controller at all!

[Edit: We've finally found some video! Check out the vision trailer everyone saw at the press conference at the bottom of the page.]
The Xbox 360 hardware revolution

Microsoft calls it "Project Natal." It's a new piece of technology that uses depth-sensing cameras, microphones, and specialized software to enable voice and facial recognition, full body motion sensing, and the ability to play just about any game without a controller in your hands.

At today's Microsoft press conference, which served as the unofficial start to E3 (the show floor doors don't open until tomorrow), Steven Spielberg walked out on the stage and talked about a 'controller' that "not only recognizes your thumbs and fingers, but your entire body." With it, we'd be able to wrap our fingers around imaginary steering wheels, leap onto imaginary skateboards, or judo-duel with imaginary enemies, seeing all our free movements reflected on-screen, in real time.

Now, granted, we had an idea that this sort of motion sensing was on the horizon, and had even seen creative director Kudo Tsunoda flipping through dashboard menus with simple waves of his hands. But on stage today, Kudo stepped in front of the camera and was instantly recognized and logged into his Xbox Live profile. His avatar matched his every movement (if a little jerkily), and he proceeded to play 3D breakout with his body as the paddle.

It's certainly exciting, but it's also nowhere near ready for public consumption, so Microsoft had a few other announcements as well. Xbox Live is getting a bevy of new additions, including full 1080p streaming support for all its movies and TV shows (that's streaming, not downloads) in a system Microsoft is calling "Instant-On 1080p HD." They've also partnered with three other companies: the UK's Sky TV to bring live video to the console, and Facebook and Twitter to integrate social networking into your dashboard.

We'll have video for you as soon as we can, folks! In the meantime, E3's only just begun, and GamePro will keep you updated just as fast as our furious fingers can type.

LED Throwies Graffiti

When i first sl this i thought is sucked but then I thought to my self imagine all the things you can do with these LED Throwies. LED Throwis are an inexpensive way to add color to any ferromagnetic surface in your neighborhood. A Throwie consists of a lithium battery, a 10mm diffused LED and a rare-earth magnet taped together. Throw it up high and in quantity to impress your friends and city officials.

True. I find it somewhat unnecessary but I think its made for more imaginative people and people other who loose things easily than because they just have them in a small 2D screen. Now you can loose your things on a 3D. you can have a 3D room of your stuff. I find it fun more searching place for files you saved.

The Mosquito Ring Tone: This Adult Can Hear It!

The Mosquito Ring Tone: This Adult Can Hear It!

The NY Times published a story on the Mosquito Ringtone (also known as Teen Buzz) this morning. Allegedly inaudible to adults, this 17Khz ringtone has become popular among teens looking to be able to send and receive text messages surreptitiously in class. They even included a sample of the ringtone, so you could determine for yourself whether it’s audible or not.

Well, I had no trouble hearing it, and according to the convenient chart provided (reproduced at left), at the age of 42 most people my age can’t hear anything beyond 13Khz. Apparently, I am more youthful than I thought…

Wondering what I could hear, I took a quick trip to the NCH Swift Sound website, and downloaded the NCH Tone Generator application. This little tool is used by audio engineers to generate various different kinds of tones ranging from square waves to pink noise to sine waves, and a bunch more. I generated a four different sets of tones at 15Khz, 16Khz, 17Khz, and 18Khz and listened to them, comparing them with the mosquito. The mosquito is a very dirty tone, with lots of noise in it. Perhaps that’s because it’s been converted to MP3, or perhaps it’s not a pure sine wave. In any case, while the allegedly 17Khz mosquito tone is quite audible, I had difficulty hearing a true 17Khz sine wave. The 18Khz tone was inaudible. You can listen to all four WAV files for yourself and do your own comparison. I recommend not turning the volume way up. Despite the fact that they are nearly inaudible, they are still very high energy sound, and my ears were sore after several listenings.

A Creative Stretagist

Let this Thursday inspire you. Let it lift your spirits and increase your sense of appreciation of life on this amazing little planet. If you must dwell on the factors and the people that annoy you, do so from a mountaintop. Look down from above. Be stunned and impressed by the way that nature has deprived so many people of a natural overview and that this has created so many potentially awkward scenarios. But stay high. For you have something wonderful to do now. And this deserves your full attention.
